Global Village Welcome Center Will Receive $500,000 in Funding for Youth Programming

The Global Village Welcome Center will receive $500,000 specifically to support youth programming as part of funding secured by Congressman André Carson. At the Global Village Welcome Center, we will use the funding toward implementing programs to help kids explore and learn about cultures from around the world.

Overall, Congressman André Carson helped obtain $3.4 million for the 7th Congressional District to be used for community projects as part of the American Rescue Act of 2021. The funding is part of the $1.5-trillion-dollar legislation recently signed by President Biden.

“We are honored to receive this funding and grateful to Congressman André Carson for working tirelessly to support our community,” said Mary Clark, executive director of the International Marketplace Coalition. “This funding will allow us to further our mission of shrinking the globe and creating a village, educating the youth in our community about cultures from around the world.”

Through immersive and interactive educational experiences, participating youth will have the opportunity to learn about cultures from around the world through food, music and the arts. Programming will begin in 2023.

“I am a great supporter of its mission to make everybody feel welcome by celebrating the rich cultural tapestry of central Indiana,” said Carson. “This funding that I was honored to secure will no doubt strengthen that important work, and help more kids learn to appreciate and respect our differences.”
